Two local couples celebrated 70th wedding anniversaries with a party at the home of Paula Stinson and Dan Nakumara in Ruston. Both couples, Frances and Jerry Stinson of Ruston and Dorothy and Ray Young of Wisner, started married life in December 1952 in Ruston after Jerry and Ray were commissioned Ensigns in the Navy and received their flight wings. The couples shared living quarters at Jerry and Ray’s first duty station in Coronado, California. Jerry finished a 30-year Navy career while Ray returned to Wisner for a thriving agricultural business. Jerry, Frances and Dorothy grew up in Ruston and Ray’s early years were in Hico. They all credit healthy north Louisiana living for their marriage longevity. From left are Frances Stinson (91), Jerry Stinson (93), Ray Young (93) and Dorothy Young (90).
