Donald Eugene Crume
Funeral services for Mr. Donald Eugene Crume will be held on February 26, 2011, 2:00 P.M. at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston, LA. with Dr. Chris Craig and Bro. Stan Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel.
Donald Eugene Crume was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, on December 6, 1933, to John and Myrtle Hedges Crume. He passed away February 22, 2011, at the age of 77, in Ruston, Louisiana, with his wife and children by his side after a lengthy illness.
Don graduated from Springfield High School, Springfield, Oregon, in 1951 and attended the University of Oregon at Eugene.
Don began a 55 year career in the wood business (sweeping floors) at Pacific Plywood Co., Dillard, Oregon, in 1952. His work was interrupted with service in the US Army in 1953 where he was stationed in Germany after the Korean war.
Don married Charlotte after being honorably discharged from the army. Willamette Industries hired Don and moved he and his family to Ruston in 1973 where Don founded DC & Associates in 1976 and added value to composite wood panels by processing, warehousing, transporting, and marketing for various manufacturers. Don headed operations in Ruston and Bernice until retiring in 2008.
Don enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and was an avid saltwater fisherman who loved to boat and fish in the Gulf of Mexico. He also loved nature and fed birds and squirrels year around in his back yard.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Byron Crume. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Charlotte and son Kevin and his wife Jenny, all of Ruston and daughter Cheryl and her husband Vernon Hough of Saline. He is also survived by a sister, Lola Weber of Portland, Oregon, and a brother Wayne Crume of St. Louis, Mo. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Robert Crume, of Tampa, FL; Brandon, Morgan, Logan, and Jordan Crume of Ruston; Shelby Hough, Colby Hough and wife Melissa, Gillian Hough and fiance’ Jacob Norred (Guitman) all of Saline.
Pallbearers are Lester Freeland, Leonce Guidry, and Don’s five grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Gale Marshall and the husbands of members of Laureate Omega Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Ruston.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00-2:00 P.M. February 26, 2011 at Owens Memorial Chapel.
