Legislators must resolve issues now

The entire first day of the 12-day session was spent touring the parts of New Orleans, St. Bernard Parish and other areas most affected by Katrina.

While the visit might have served as a way to focus the attention of legislators on the task at hand, Rep. Rick Gallot, D-Grambling, was right on the button when he said it took an entire day away from conducting state business.

With an agenda that includes 41 items, the Legislature did not need to waste a day on looking at scenes that have appeared on television reports and newspapers on an almost daily basis.
