Truancy, dropout battle important

The Lincoln Parish School Board and the Ruston 21 Education Committee are working to make Lincoln Parish the top district in the state by 2017. One of the obstacles to achieving that designation is the 73 percent graduation rate within the parish.

Tied closely into the graduation rate is the truancy rate, which Andy Shealy, director of the Truancy Assessment Service Center program, said was 3.23 percent for the fall semester.
