Growing up, young boys are bombarded from every direction about what it means to be manly — macho, athletic, strong-willed, and the list goes on.

As the son of an ex-athlete and someone who fell in love with sports almost by the time I could walk, I faced many of those same stereotypes of manhood myself. On top of that, like my father, I was pretty small. It wasn’t until high school that I actually caught up with many of my classmates height-wise.
