Behind the pitching of David Burkhalter and hitting of Ben LeBlanc and Shelton Wooley, Ruston High improved its baseball record to 8-1 Thursday with a 1-0 victory over Parkway at the annual Airline High tournament in Bossier City.
Burkhalter got the victory and LeBlanc and Wooley contributed two hits each for the Bearcats.
Adding in two sacrifice bunts for the Bearcats was Garrett Hipp, while Cannon Brasuell, B.J. Findley and Burkhalter had a single each.
Denham Springs made it an exciting final stanza before the Bearcats pulled away late, as Ruston escaped with a 33-14 win over the Yellow Jackson in Louisiana High School Athletic Association first round playoff action Friday at James Stadium.
