Special session plugged budget hole

Greg Albrecht, chief economist for the Legislative Fiscal Office, said budget cuts were made to account for all projected shortfalls in FY 2006.

“We reduced the amount of estimated state revenue by about $959 million, which is the budget hole we projected for the fiscal year that ends June 30, 2006,” Albrecht said. “The special session plugged that hole.”

During the special session, the Legislature cut $616 million out of the FY 2006 budget. The majority of those cuts came in the areas of healthcare and education.
