Firefighters from the Ruston Fire Department underwent Hazardous Material Training Wednesday at Coastal Chemical Company under the auspices of officials from the LSU Fire and Emergency Training Institute. Pictured are firefighters undergoing a simulated decontamination. The drill had firefighters patch a hole in a ruptured tank leaking chemicals before they practiced decontamination.

Lincoln Parish should soon have a new business that might offer a little more stability to the Police Jury’s budget.
During their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Lincoln Parish Police Jurors approved local convenience store owner Ali Saleh — pending credit and reference checks — as a new tenant for the space that formerly housed Movie Gallery.
Area runners hit the streets of downtown Saturday to start a new holiday tradition by participating in Quota International of Ruston’s Reindeer Run. Proceeds from the event, which included a hot chocolate after party and an ugly sweater contest, benefitted the Pine Hills Children’s Advocacy Center.
