William and Nancy Hanks celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 17. Their family hosted an evening of food and fellowship at the Hanks’ home. The Hanks were married Oct. 15, 1960. They have two children, Mike Hanks and wife Cammie, and Jackie Billberry and husband Philip. They have four grandchildren, Lance Billberry, Brittney Billberry, Hunter Hanks and Abigail Hanks.

Local Boy Scouts are continuously serving the community year-round, said Scout Master Clint Williams. There are six scout groups in Ruston.
Williams said he is the scout master of Troop 45 in Ruston.
“Twice per year on Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day, our group will go put American flags on the gravesites of American veterans,” he said. “And in preparation for Flag Day during the summer, we’ll go to the VFW and disassemble the flags for disposal. The scouts then assist in the flag burning ceremony on the Saturday before Flag Day.”

A GSU graduate, he also graduated from Southern University’s law school and he attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Students at Alma J. Brown Elementary Laboratory School will get a chance to learn about the importance of good nutrition and physical fitness through a program sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation and the LSU AgCenter.
