In 2010, Lincoln Parish did not see the typical growth in its overall property tax base.

Parish Tax Assessor Pam Jones attributes the growth stunt to a change in guidelines implemented by the Louisiana Tax Commission. According to the new guidelines, oil and gas wells will hit the “floor” of their straight-line depreciation — which is 20 percent of their initial value — after only 17 years instead of 25 years.
