Reader: Column about tax inaccurate
This is a harsh response for which I make no apology. The nature of the transgression toward which it is directed warrants such.
Rob Shadoin has irresponsibly yelled fire in a crowded theatre.
In his Aug. 29 column, he repeats a widely circulated falsehood meant to discredit the Obama administration and Democrat controlled congress. The falsehood that Shadoin so irresponsibly repeated is summarized at Snopes.com as follows: “Starting in 2011, all employees will have to pay taxes on the value of health insurance provided by their employers.” This statement is false. There is no law, rule or regulation presently in effect or scheduled to take effect in the future that will tax either the employee or the employer on the amount paid by the employer for medical insurance benefits provided to employees. Shadoin would have known it was false had he taken but a moment to verify it. I was able to verify within a minute or two at Snopes.com (among other sources) that it was false.
