Many people feel safe walking around in beautiful Ruston or Lincoln Parish. Seeing a patrol car every few blocks downtown only adds to those feelings of safety. However, Ruston and Lincoln Parish still are very much unlike the fictional town of Mayberry, where crime was virtually non-existent.

Stories show up on the Daily Leader’s front page with startling frequency to remind us that even if nothing bad has happened to us, our community is not immune from the ills of society, despite how hard we all work to make the area a “peach” of a place to live.

Recently, several young men were arrested in connection with a home and several vehicle burglaries.

Capt. Stephen Williams, spokesman for the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, said that all of the cars burglarized were left unlocked with valuables in place.
