Exemption applies to first $2,500 of purchase

Anyone who needs to purchase anything from school supplies to hunting gear might save a little money if they buy those items this weekend.

Louisiana’s annual sales tax holiday is Friday and Saturday.

State officials will exempt most retail purchases from the 4-percent state sales tax. The exemption applies to the first $2,500 of the cost of most items that aren’t for business use.
The sales tax break doesn’t apply, however, to local taxes collected by parishes, towns and other taxing entities.
