However, Faircloth’s argument must have sounded convincing to members of the House Transportation Committee. Without objection, they approved House Bill 639, sponsored by Rep. Jim Morris, which repeals the mandatory motorcycle helmet law. If this bill becomes law, only Louisiana residents under age 21 would be required to wear a helmet when they drive or ride a bike.

The bill now heads to the full House for consideration.
