Unwitting children can quickly become victims if they don’t know what to do to protect themselves.

National statistics show that one in seven kids between the ages of 10 and 17 have received a sexual solicitation online. One in three have experienced unwanted exposure to sexual material on the Internet.

Sheriff Mike Stone offers these tips to keep children safe online:

• Put the computer in a common area where you can see what your children are doing online.

• Spend time online with your child and establish rules for Internet use.
