The LEAP exam — given annually to the state’s fourth- and eighth-graders — is based on knowledge students are supposed to possess at that grade level. Every year, some local children fail this test and are held back. Every year, the school system searches for new ways to improve the students’ scores on the LEAP, as well as the high school Graduate Exit Exam and iLEAP, a test taken by students in grades 3, 5, 6, 7 and 9.
