‘We need help now’
The support was appreciated, but their aim seemed a bit off for many who hoped to hear something more concrete than terms like “hold on” and “tread water.”
State officials told area poultry contractors that things will be tough in the short term, but there is hope for the long term.
“Long term is bankruptcy,” Pilgrim’s Pride contractor Lara Smith said.
Six years ago Smith and her husband invested their lives into becoming poultry farmers, moving from Jonesboro to Lillie to do so. And Monday’s meeting didn’t leave her hopeful for the future.
