Universities’ funds need protection

With $109 million to make up around the state this year in higher education, we knew cuts were coming. Tech and GSU are dealing with 8 percent cuts, or about $7 million together.
That hurts, and it hurts a lot.

It will be truly shocking if the leaders of Tech and GSU can cut without losing at least some jobs. It’s particularly tough because they’ll have to find a way to carve out such a large percentage of their budget mid-year. That effectively doubles the depth of the carving because it all has to come after six months of spending.
