Is 'vegan' a dirty word?

For those who don’t know, as opposed to vegetarians who only exclude meat from their diet, a vegan does not eat meat, including fish or any other animal products such as dairy.
That effectively slashes milk, eggs, chocolate, cookies, cakes, boxed mashed potatoes, green-bean casserole and many other things off the list of menu options. It seems like an unjust thing to do to one’s self, but it’s really not a bad way to live. I’ll get to the yummy food choices later, but first, how about that healthy lifestyle?
