If you’re like me, when Phelps started snagging serious karats at the Olympics this year, you looked him up.

As it turns out, Phelps was not a classic overachiever. He was a kid with issues, emotional and otherwise, who in dealing with them funneled a lot of energy into a diversion that became a path to success.

But, honestly, you wonder where he’d be without the mentoring that came from his coach, Bob Bowman.
