“You can be married and abused for 40 years, but you can still leave and build a good life for yourself!”

I first met Ms. G. when she stayed in DART’s shelter three or four years ago. Her down-home Southern-style cooking quickly made her popular with residents and staff alike. She made the best chicken and dumplings I ever tasted.

Although she worked hard to keep up a positive veneer, she didn’t have much to be positive about. She was, after all, a 50-something-year-old woman living in a domestic violence shelter.
