Volunteer shifts range between two and three hours and might involve manning entrance gates, selling food coupons or helping with events such as the 5K run or rodeo.

The reasons for volunteering are varied, but for some it’s simply an activity for family bonding.

Ruston resident Renae Roper is in her sixth year of volunteering. For the last few years, her son and daughter have joined her as she’s worked the admission gate.
