Hearing loss is measureable
• Difficulty understanding speech, not so much hearing speech. This is a very common symptom of high frequency hearing loss. Women and children’s voices may be particularly difficult to understand. If you add in some background noise, speech discrimination may become nearly impossible. Poor speech discrimination is a reliable sign of significant hearing loss.
• Listening to the TV or radio at levels that others find too loud. To help increase speech intelligibility, people with hearing loss will turn up the volume so that they can understand more.
