Original artwork is a one-of-a-kind composition that an artist has actually put his brush to and has spent many long hours working on. Reproductions are customarily mass-produced copies of an original. Generally, you will not find authentic paintings or sculptural works at the local mall or chain retailer.

Jacqueline Cochran, owner of By the Alley Art and Gift Shop, believes that many people are not used to having the opportunity to buy genuine art.

Indeed, when I explained what an original was to my mother, she asked in a rather exasperated tone, “Well, where can I find that?”
