I believe a lot of it can be attributed to expectations and societal acceptance. It also can be tied to peer influence and incorrect information. Struggling through school if it is challenging or not enjoyable or waiting to get married require delaying immediate gratification. Plus, if young people have friends without a degree who are still paying the rent or see other married teenagers who appear to have temporary financial independence from their parents, these choices look more appealing.
