Hearing impaired students see signs of progress

At Cypress Springs, a few deaf children split their time between the regular classroom and the school’s Hearing Resource Center, where they work with Lincoln Parish deaf educator Lisa Trussell and interpreter Jessica Aulds to practice sign language, lip reading, sounding out words and receive extra help in regular academic areas.

The students’ degree of impairment varies and influences how they communicate. LaErica, 8, has only mild hearing loss and can carry on conversations with hearing individuals.
