The band played “Hail to the Chief” as the dignitaries filed in and took their places at the two-tier head table. As 400 people stood silent and still, the honor guard walked noiselessly down the red-carpet runway, their commander issuing sharp orders as they posted the U.S. and Louisiana flags.

The invitations carried the official seal of the President of the United States. This was an occasion of state, the first Lincoln Parish School District White House Dinner, honoring fourth-grade students from Cypress Springs and Ruston Elementary schools.
