Response to derailed train was superb
Local churches sprang into action and offered food and shelter for displaced residents. All it took was an early morning call from Choudrant Mayor Bill Sanderson to get the doors to First Baptist Church of Choudrant open and the coffee brewing. Even pets were allowed to seek refuge at the church.
The collaboration of local and state law enforcement agencies, the Kansas City Southern railroad company and environmental organizations was impressive. Everyone involved worked together to resolve the situation as safely and quickly as possible.
