Lundy Eldridge Cavender, Jr., M.D., passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013, in Fort Worth, TX, at the age of 58.

Lundy was born on July 26, 1954, in Helena, AR. His family moved to Ruston in 1961, and he attended school in Lincoln Parish, graduating with honors from Ruston High School in 1972. He earned a BS degree from LSU in 1976 and an MS in Microbiology from Louisiana Tech in 1977. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity during his years at LSU. He graduated from medical school at LSU Shreveport in 1981 and completed his residency in pediatrics at St. Frances Hospital in Tulsa, OK. He also completed a course of study in pathology at Westminster Hospital in London, England in 1980. He practiced medicine in Winnsboro, LA; Ruston, LA; and Fort Worth, TX. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church.

Lundy is survived by his two children, Hayley Laura Cavender of Austin, TX and Lundy Eldridge "Ridge" Cavender III of Fort Worth; as well as his father, Lundy Cavender, Sr., of Ruston and his three sisters, Barbara Cavender Lewis and Mary Cavender of Ruston, and Beverly Cavender de Filippis of Glen Ridge, NJ. Lundy adored his nieces and nephew, Katharine Lewis Powell, Cristin Lewis, Lauren Lewis Innocenzi, Stephen de Filippis, Cecile de Filippis Ashby, Claire de Filippis Wiggins, and Hannah Cavender. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Joan Stephens Cavender and by his nephew Marc Eldridge de Filippis. His family will miss him greatly and will hold him in their hearts forever.

A private funeral service will be held for the family at Kilpatrick's Funeral Home in Ruston with burial to follow at Pines Memorial Gardens.
