Quarterback Johnny Manziel (2) convinced Louisiana Tech University fans and others around the nation of his worthiness for being the first freshman ever to capture the Heisman Trophy. He totaled 576 yards in leading Texas A&M to a 59-57 win over the Bulldogs in Shreveport this season.

When opportunity knocks, it’s sometimes best to open the door.

That was surely one of the factors figuring into Sonny Dykes recently taking the University of California head coaching job.

But no way in the world that he’s not also wondering just what might have been had he waited about a week-to-10 days later in exiting from his three-year stay as the top coach at Louisiana Tech University.
