For many people, Mardi Gras beads are nothing more than party favors, but for German–born artist, Stephan Wanger, they are a medium to create art.
“After my first Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans, I noticed the insane amount of beads that were thrown and hauled away at the cost of the taxpayer. Through research I learned that many cities celebrate Mardi Gras and that there is an enormous amount of waste. I couldn’t believe it. I started to use reclaimed Mardi Gras beads and glued them onto plastic planters,” Wanger said.
From that, Wanger’s art evolved.
