A memorial service for Mabel Daniel Temple, age 93, of Bellevue, Washington, formerly of Ruston, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 15th, 2012, at the Chapel of First Baptist Church Ruston. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Arcadia Cemetery in Arcadia under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Mabel was born May 7, 1919, in Arcadia, Louisiana and died peacefully, surrounded by family, on September 2, 2012, in Bellevue, Washington. Mabel moved to Ruston in 1948 where her husband, Benson, was a professor of mathematics at Louisiana Tech University.
In addition to being a compassionate mother and loving wife, Mabel was a devoted confidante and friend to many through a variety of teaching and leadership roles with Louisiana Tech Faculty Wives, First Baptist Church, and in the community. Rarely would you find Mabel sitting without a handwork project in her lap, knitting a sweater, afghan, or cap, a needlepoint picture or seat-cover. An extraordinary conversationalist, Mabel wove together the story of the lives of friends and family in beautiful patterns – not unlike the intricate sweaters she custom designed.

Mabel was predeceased by her husband of 69 years: William Benson Temple. She is survived by her children, Daniel B. Temple and wife Loranne of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Louise Temple-Rosebrook and husband Fritz Rosebrook of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Van Temple and wife Eva Abbott of New Orleans, and Jane and husband Keith Rogstad of Bellevue, Washington, her sister, Barbara Euwer, of Granbury, Texas, as well as 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

Donations in memory of Mabel can be made to: Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, 7200 DeSiard Street, Monroe, LA 71203 www.lbch.org. To leave a memorial message for the family, please visit www.owensmemorialfuneralhome.com.
