Mrs. Moore, or as she was affectionately known by many of her dear friends, “Miss Chessie”, was born on February 16, 1920 in Simpson County, Mississippi, She is preceded in death by her parents, John Jefferson Jones and Sarah Roach Jones, her 2 sisters and 3 brothers, her beloved husband of 52 years James Lester Moore and one great grandson Johnathan Reeves Funderburk. Born on her father’s farm, she made three great moves in her life. In 1938 she moved to Meridian, Mississippi where she met and subsequently married James Lester Moore. In 1953 she moved with her husband and children to Ruston, Louisiana where her children and many of her grandchildren attended school at A, E. Phillips, Cedar Creek, Ruston High School and Louisiana Tech University. And now Mother has made her third and final great move into that special place reserved for her many years ago in Heaven to spend eternity with her Lord and all those loved ones who have gone before!

So many lives were touched in the 92 years of Chessie Mae Jones Moore’s journey, many of them in the years of her active membership in her much loved Temple Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, was active in the Womens’ Missionary Union, a strong prayer warrior for her children, her pastor and other leaders of her church. She was always a tither of her time, talent and wealth and faithful in worship attendance!

Mother also touched the lives of students who just needed a Motherly friend in her many years of service at the Louisiana Tech Book Store.

Surviving Mrs. James L. Moore are all of her six children including Richard and wife Luann of Ruston, Sharon and her husband Bill Cole of Kernersville, N.C., Jimmy and wife Jean of Ruston, Randy and wife Emily of Ruston, John and wife Sharon of Nashville, Tennessee and Nancy and husband Bill Whittenburg of Ruston. Also surviving her are 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, scattered over much of the United States. The Saga of Chessie Mae Jones Moore and the Jones/Moore family is the saga of this great nation, love of God, love of country and love of family!
