My wife and I just returned from Grandparents Boot Camp in Colleyville, Texas. Actually, we “consented” to babysit our 8-month-old grandson, while the parents took their first extended vacation since the boy’s birth. We had experienced a single overnight sitting earlier, but this was a five-day job.

After reassuring the parents that we had been in their shoes, at one time, we settled in for a remake of Home Alone 2. You have to assume a “not on my watch” attitude when you take on this role, so climbing Mt. Everest is a cakewalk, mentally.
