From breastfeeding initiatives to Chick-Fil- A, the culture wars, or more specifically, the freedom of expression and choice, have been major staples of the national headlines this past week. More locally, Lincoln Parish experienced its own brush with the grey area of the civil liberties conundrum.

Most journalists strive for neutrality, at least in public view. That part of the job is often at odds with one’s own personal beliefs. As I was assigned to cover the rumored funeral protest of U.S. Navy Aircrewman J.P. Fitzmorris by the Westboro Baptist Church, sickened was an understatement.
