On Friday, June 8, our lovely, peaceful neighborhood lost its innocence. On that day we awoke to find that our friend and neighbor Susan Hashway had been taken from us in a brutal act of mindless savagery.

Dr. Susan E. Hashway was born and raised in West Warwick, R.I., the daughter of the late Leslie A. and Barbara W. Hartman. She was married to the late Dr. Robert Hashway, professor at Grambling State University. She is survived by three sisters, Janice Hartman Curtin and husband LeRoy of Palm Harbor, Fla., Joan Hartman Lisee and husband Remi of Weare, N.H., and Betty Hartman Gould of Richmond, R.I. She was predeceased by her brother George Albert Hartman. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
