The local March of Dimes chapter and Louisiana Tech Athletics have partnered for seven years to host the annual Diaper Derby at a basketball game. The event was held at half-time of the Bulldogs’ basketball games on Jan. 31.
Sixteen children participated in the event including two crawlers and 11 toddlers. Prizes for the child crossing the finish line first in each group were awarded by the March of Dimes and Louisiana Tech Athletics.
The Junior Auxiliary of Ruston’s current provisional class recently held their first-year project — a uniform drive for area youth.
More than 800 uniforms were donated to the drive earlier this year, and while only around 15 children came out to drive the remaining uniforms that were donated will be given to area schools for children to use.

Charlie Williams, “The Noiseguy,” a vocal sound impressionist who can imitate the sound of planes, trains and automobiles, is coming to the Lincoln Parish Library Events Center at 2 p.m. June 23. This performer is also a kids’ comedian, author and illustrator. In one of his typical shows one might hear flushing toilets, dinosaurs, monster trucks and beatboxin’.
Williams encourages kids to laugh at everyday annoyances because humor is an important life skill. Parents will be asked to get in touch with their inner (noisy) child.
Louisiana Tech University’s College of Engineering and Science will host industry leaders from throughout the region as well as faculty experts from Tech at the “Nanotechnology for Louisiana” conference, Nov. 9 at the Louisiana Tech Shreveport Center in Shreveport.
The one-day conference will include discussions and presentations on topics such the most recent developments in the field of nanotechnology, how Louisiana is leveraging the nanotechnology expertise and innovations of its citizens, how small and large companies are making use of nanotechnology to improve current and future products and how nanotechnology is impacting the fields of healthcare, construction, defense and energy.
