Some children are very social whereas others keep more to themselves.

In a few youth, however, failure to communicate with others is to the extreme that they are diagnosed with autism, a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the prevalence of autism has risen to one in every 88 births in the United States and almost one in 54 boys.
