After losing opener, Tech showed grit in WAC tourney

Photo by JEFFREY LOWMAN Shortstop Ryan Gebhardt had seven hits during Louisiana Tech University’s five games in the annual Western Athletic Conference postseason tournament that concluded this weekend in Meza, Ariz. The Bulldogs had their season end with a 6-4 loss to Fresno State University on Saturday.

Louisiana Tech University’s baseball team almost had a Cinderella script in sunny Arizona this weekend.

As the annual Western Athletic Conference postseason tournament progressed, the “glass slipper” began to get a good fit with the Bulldogs.

Tech immediately had its back to the wall with a 4-3 loss to Nevada in the opening round on Wednesday.

No problem, even if the No. 6 seeded Bulldogs (27-28) had to win or else thereafter in the double elimination format.

Well, that’s exactly what they did for their next three games, starting with a 9-6 victory over Hawaii on Thursday.
