New transformer arrives in town

The current transformer was installed in the early 1970s. Darrell Caraway, head of Ruston’s Power and Light Department, said, and the new transformer would allow his department to use the old transformer as a backup.

“Right now, we are unable to even do any maintenance work on our transformer because if we shut it down, we lose our tie-in with Entergy,” Caraway said. “Once the new transformer comes on line, we’ll use the old transformer as a backup.”

The acquisition of the transformer was a four-year process, including a year-long wait just to have the 71,000–pound monster built.
