Broome pleads guilty to second-degree murder
Walter Broome, 47, of 666 Hwy. 595, Ruston, told the court he wanted to enter a plea of guilty shortly after noon and by 3 p.m. he was being led away in chains to begin serving his sentence.
Assistant Third Judicial District Attorney Laurie Whitten was to be the prosecutor in the case said the sudden plea was a blessing to the family.
“It’s very unusual to see anyone plead guilty to second-degree murder because it carries a mandatory life sentence,” Whitten said. “But it certainly was a relief to the family of the victim.”
