La. Tech graduate students conduct experiment

The photographs show the curvature of the Earth and the edge of space.

Using a weather balloon, a camera, a parachute and a cell phone, three Louisiana Tech graduate students captured seemingly distant photographs of Earth.

The students modeled their experiment after an earlier one done by MIT students two years ago. MIT student Joseph Yeh led the project, which sent a camera up with a weather balloon to photograph the edge of space. The project reportedly cost the MIT students less than $150.
