“It keeps track of heart rate, blood pressure, pulse, etc.,” Ford said. “We can watch their vitals and if one becomes elevated, we know to pull that person. Heat is the No. 1 killer of firefighters; it can cause heart attacks, strokes and aneurysms because of the elevated heat we go into.”
