In our culture today it is odd when there is not a winner.

We are developing a cultural identity centered on happy endings and ease, and let our cell phones and computers live for us so we can prop up our feet and watch life float by.

Since winning is usually synonymous with a happy ending, it can cause an uproar when something throws off everything we have worked so hard to achieve.
