Chelsea Hayes of Louisiana Tech University became the world leader in the women’s long jump on Saturday when she registered a 22-6.25 mark at the Texas Relays.

AUSTIN, Texas — Louisiana Tech University’s Chelsea Hayes qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials, set two school and Western Athletic Conference records and won the long jump with the world’s best mark of the year Saturday, as action wrapped up at the annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Hayes’ long jump mark of 22-6.25 not only set a new school and conference record, but it also qualified the New Orleans native for the U.S. Olympic Trials this summer, the final step before qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
