A graveside service for Mr. James Allen Hinton, age 80 of Ruston, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, March 2, 2012 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ruston. Rev. Marcelle Ronquielle, Jr. will officiate the service. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Mr. Hinton was born July 19, 1931 in Ruston to Joseph Cullen Hinton and Jessie Gardner Hinton. He won his lengthy battle with cancer on February 28, 2012. James Allen served in the Army National Guard and the US Navy. He retired from the Ruston Police Department as a sergeant in 1973. He was a Deacon of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he was a member most of his life. He loved raising a garden and sharing what he raised. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Hinton is survived by his wife of 60 plus years: Dannye Gay Hinton; his daughter: Marie Hinton and husband Arthur Reed, Jr. of Ruston; his granddaughter: Chelsea “Homer” Reed of Ruston; two sisters: Joyce and husband John “Buddy” Lowery of Ruston and Elizabeth “Libby” Lee of Bossier City; special cousin Larry Gardner of Fort Worth, Texas; his beloved pet “Tanner” and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Mr. Hinton’s nephews will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at Owens Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The family would like to thank Dr. Tom Morris, Dr. Greg Vigna, Dr. Tommy Smith, Dr. Billy Smith, Dr. David Osafo and the staff of Northern Louisiana Medical Center, the staff of Lifecare of Ruston and Princeton Place for the love, care and concern shown.
