NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Freshman Phil Maton pitched seven innings of five-hit baseball, as Louisiana Tech (7-3) upset 2011 NCAA World Series participant Vanderbilt 9-3 Wednesday afternoon.

Ryan Gebhardt and Tyler Qualls also set career-highs on offense, as Gebhardt went four-for-five with three runs batted in and Qualls went three-for-five with two RBIs to lead the Bulldogs.

Taylor Burch hit a line drive home run over the “green monster” in left field to give Tech its 9-3 final advantage.
