Mack Jr. named to board in interim
The District 10 seat of the Lincoln Parish School Board will stay in the Mack family, at least for now.
The school board held a specially called meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday to appoint an interim board member for the District 10 seat and to discuss pending litigation in the school district’s desegregation case.
The meeting was called before longtime board member George Mack Sr. died last week, but electing an interim was added to the agenda before the meeting. Board member Mattie Harrison, representative for District 1, nominated Mack’s son, George Mack Jr., to take his father’s seat until a special election is held. The board unanimously — with the exception of Lynda Henderson and Danny Hancock who were both absent — approved the nomination and approved a resolution to instate Mack Jr. to the seat. Mack Jr. accepted the interim seat, though Superintendent Danny Bell said Mack Jr. has previously said he does not intend to run for the seat.
