Howard Otis Ulmer, Jr.
A memorial service for Mr. Howard Otis Ulmer, Jr., age 80 of Ruston, will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Antioch United Methodist Church near Ruston. Rev. Joe Koskie will officiate the service. The service is under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
Mr. Ulmer was born July 20, 1931 in Thibodeaux to Howard Otis Ulmer, Sr. and Alvilda Lockfield Ulmer. He died at his home in Ruston February 25, 2012. Mr. Ulmer was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served his country in the US Marine Corps. He worked for Bell South for many years as an electrical technician. In his spare time, Mr. Ulmer enjoyed planting trees, brewing beer, and was a member of the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s S.C.O.P. unit. He also enjoyed collecting firearms and shooting, was considered an excellent marksman and at the end of the day was what is referred to as a “Gun Nut”.
Mr. Ulmer is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy Galloway Ulmer; his two sons: Jans Ulmer and wife Janice of Ruston and Karl Erik Ulmer and wife Eva of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren: Anna Michelle Ulmer, Daniel Ulmer and Jessica Ulmer; one sister: Patricia Lavinge of Thibodeaux as well as his nices, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jans Ulmer, Karl Ulmer, Lester Davis, Ernie Stevens, Stan Opiel and Robert Price. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Monday, February 27, 2012 at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston.
