BESE prepares for busy year
Earlier this month, the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education swore in several new members, including local businessman Jay Guillot.
With Gov. Bobby Jindal announcing that he is making education his top priority in 2012, BESE members will definitely have their jobs cut out for them. According to the Associated Press, Jindal has presented a plan that supports scholarships for private schools, the increased use of charter schools and a restructuring of the tenure system, which currently makes it difficult to fire underperforming teachers that have been with the system for a certain amount of time.
